Reading is the most important curriculum skill your students will ever learn. And an effective reading school assembly can help bridge the gap from “I have to” to “I want to.”
They can’t learn about history without reading. They can’t learn about science and STEM without reading. They can’t learn much of anything without reading. So let’s get your students excited about reading!
I’m Bay Area Reading School Assembly Presenter Brian Scott. I’ve been performing in Bay Area schools, libraries, and other venues for 20 years. School administrators love my blend of fun with messages.
My “Biblio Spectacular” reading-themed school assembly is perfect for Read Across America or any reading campaign in your school! In this 45-minute magical program, I encourage kids to think and ask questions. And I will explain why the library and books are the best ways to get answers to those questions.

But you might be wondering why? Why do so many schools book me year after year for their reading school assemblies?
Here’s my secret…
Here’s what happens when most school administrators or PTA/PTO members search for the right assembly on reading: They dig around, find one they like, book it…and start over again the next year. They don’t want their kids to see the same show year after year.
So they have to start digging for another assembly.
My job is to make your life easier. My assembly programs are a breeze to host (more on that in a bit). But I’ve completely eliminated the “Gotta find a new reading school assembly next year” problem.
I’ve created four amazing assemblies on reading! Each show has new effects, new messages, and a different focus. Here are details on each:
How do you find the answers to your questions? Solutions to your ideas? Books, computers, people, and many other resources can be found at the library and the best way to start is to ask for help.
A classic of magic, the linking rings, is used to help show students how something that looks easy for one person might prove a challenge for others, but they too can make the magic happen if they know who to ask for help.
Many of us take stories for granted. But how do authors write their stories? What does every story need to be a story? This informative show helps students appreciate how stories are created.
Routines include a funny visualization of a story using a rope that helps kids understand a beginning a middle and an end. The entire show helps show how everything has a beginning, a middle, and an end, and how you tell your story matters.
I believe some people don’t like to read simply because they haven’t found a genre that appeals to them. Since the library is so vast, let’s explore different genres of books! Which are fiction? Which are non-fiction? What does any of this mean? Your kids find out in this amazing show!
Here’s a sample of what your students will experience: Students share their favorite stories and write them down on pieces of paper that are then mixed up. One book is chosen from the many different ones that make up a library and it is revealed that the book title was predicted in a very fun and funny manner that leaves all the students with a magic wand bookmark they get to keep.
Libraries are more than just stacks of books. They are places where we can interact with others! In this performance students learn that it is not just about books at the library, it is about learning, discovering, and connecting with others.
During this reading assembly, your students will see books ‘teleport’ from one place to another by magic! Your school’s principal or librarian gets to participate in an incredible ‘escape’ routine!
With these four shows, you’ll never have to worry about finding a new reading assembly each year. Every program is perfect for grades K-5 and features plenty of magic and age-appropriate humor. Your teachers will love the messages. Best of all, your students will want to visit the library and gobble up books after the show!
And each show is easy. SO easy. Read on…
Too many school assembly presenters in the Bay Area are hard to work with. Maybe their shows take too long to set up. Many performers are “Divas,” expecting the red carpet treatment. All of that is nonsense. I believe in making my assemblies the easiest experience ever. Here’s how…
